Yes, it's official, ESPN is obsessed with Boston:
Despite the fact that their team of objective analysts identified the Red Sox as Cold Plate Specialists in the lineup, infield, and bullpen categories, Jayson Stark has OFFICIALLY declared them as the most improved team in the AL.
I understand that reporters are going to disagree, but for shit's sake, these aren't Op-Ed pieces.
Oh, wait! This just in: ESPN has declared the Red Sox winners of the New Homes Garden Gold Medal for Best Landscaped Retirement Development!!!
While we're at it, I can't believe it hasn't been nationally noted that thanks to the Bronson Arroyo trade, the BoSox are the unequivocal Cold Plate Specialists for the Best Album of the Year Grammy.

You know who's even worse than ESPN about covering small market teams? Ken Rosenthal. Take a look at his most recent articles. Offseason Winners and Losers? Only the the twenty largest markets are listed. Issues Lingering as Training Camp Opens? Locations in order: Boston, New York, Chicago, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Philly.

And then so on the Sporting News website, I just found an article reviewing offseason moves in which some arbitrary category, "Unsettled Closer Situations" was created just so the Red Sox could be put on top. I know it was created just for the Red Sox because three of the 5 teams listed are pretty damn settled(Lidge for the Astros, Benitez for the Giants, and kind of injured Isringhausen for the Cards).
Kerry Lightenberg, Todd Coffey (who?), David Weathers and maybe Dustin Hermanson? The role is obviously more settled than the Oregon Trail.
